Strange Case of Jean Venot

AUCKLAND, Sept. '24. Detectives are still working hard on the strange case of Jean Venot, Freneh engineer, whose body was found on the Piha Beach, on Saturday last. No weapon has been found but in a clump of marram grass on the bank about 50 yards from where the body was found, the police have come aeross a felt hat and a pair of scissors, both believed to belong to Venot. The hat had been oui in two and pieces of the band had been cut out. On the evening of September 14 a brown suitcase containing clothing was found in Albert Park and handod to the police. It has now been identified as Venot 's property. Detectives hope by the time the inquest is concluded, to prove that Venot took his own life.
