The Instructions Of Jesus To His Disciples
"The disciples of Jesus were not to be overburdened with this wor.d's goods, nor were they to be unduly concerned about the sec-uiv ity of their possession of such. They were 'to have their eyes' uppn a heavenset goai and they were to press tpwards it with a sense of unhurried urgency," said Rev. A, Saimond, preaching in St. .Andrew's Presbyterian Church last ^evening. "Jesus sent the disciples out to preach t'he good news. When fiearers heard the word, saw its truth and yet preferred their own dai'kness, the disciples were not to slip away unnoticed.' They were mstructed to shake 'the dust' off their sandals as a testimony that responsibiiity was n.o longer theirs. It had passed to those who were rejecting the Gospeh" Jesus had gone further and taugh't his disciples that the final responsibi.ity of overcoming evil with good was not theirs. Their duly was limited by the oppoi:tunity. They were to preach; the Gospel, They were not to try-- to make it more acceptable nor were they to resort to any devices to win success. They were simply to fcell what they themselves' knew and tliey were, to leave^the responsibiiity for accepting ihe Word with the souls of those who heard them. Responsibiiity for final success was with God and for those who rejeeted the truth their own consciences recognised and approved God had His other messengers. "The witness of the Church," concluded ihe preacher, "had sonietimes failed to indicate with sufflcient clearness where responsibili y lay when men rejeeted the truth."
