French Airman's Body Going To Tahiti
i AUCKLAND, Sept. 22. ! While the flags on naval vessels in I port flew at h'alfmast, the body of the | B'ree French aviator, Capitaine de [ Corvette Gilbert, was borne 'on a gun 1 carriagc from St. Patrick's Cathedral I to the Admiralty steps this afternoon, x to be placed on board the French sloop 1 Francis Garnier which will take it to I Tahiti. | Capitaine Gilbert was killed when a I Flving Fortress crashed just after leaving Whenuapai in June, 1942. As the cortege passed th rough the streets crowds of people gathered on tlie footpaths to pay their Jast respects to the dead airman. At the Admiralty steps the guard of honour presented arms as the coffin was carried clown the steps on to a naval launch which toolc it to the Francis Garnier.
