Croquet Club Honours Its Retiring President
Recently a delightful surprise party was tendered to Mrs. A. H. Cook, the redring president of the Otaki Croquet Club. Present and past members assembled in f ull f orce to do honour . to one who had worked so assidttously over a number of years in the interests of croquet. The party was led by the president, Mrs. M. Percival, who presente'd Mrs." Cook with a beautiful pair of slippers and an exquisite shoulder spray. Mrs. Cook, who was taken completely by surprise, thanked the members for their great kindness. A social afternoon followed when games and compedtions were enjoyed. During the serving of afternoon tea many happy reminiscences were induiged in and Mrs. Cook recalied- numerous humorous incidents in connection with the club. One particularly funny event was that of a member who aiways played with a parasol open to pro.ect her complexion. Those times, of course, were before sun bathing days. The prize-winners for the afternoon were Mesdames E. M. Harding and E. Cook, and. Miss C. Clarke.
