Widening Bottleneck In Otaki Road
Subject to satisfactory arrangerments between the Main Highways Board and the Ocaki Borough Council as to footpaths, widening operations would begin on the 28chain section of main highway between Waerenga Road and Mill Road, Otaki — which formed the real traffic bottleneck — during the coming season. This was stated by the Minister of Works, Mr. Semple, in the House of Representatiyes in reply to Mr. Maher (National, Otaki). The Minister added that the widening of the southern portion of the highway to the Otaki River Bridge was not so urgent, and this work would be done in con-, junction with the new Ocaki River bridge approaches. Plans and specifications for the bridge were in hand, but had not yet been completed. The beginning of the construction was, dependent not only on completion of the preliminary investigations, but a'SO on supplies of cement and other materials, and availability of contracting forces when the time came to do the work.
