Badminton Championships Showed That District Has Some Good Players

The recent Horowhenua badminton championships, the finals of which were played before a large gallery of spectators, producpd some first olass games and showed ttiat the district possesses several players of outstanding ability. L. J. Staples won the men's A grade championship and Mrs. W. Phiilips the ladies' title. In the B grade section the men's championship went to D. Murray and the ladies' to Miss J. Hudson. The C grade honours were won by K. Harry and Miss F, Snowdon.

The two Manakau cousins, L. and M. Stapies, played consisfcent badminton throughout the tournament and the A grade ' singles final between them was a great game which lasted 45 minutes. Shannon competitors played well to compete in four finals, but were unlucky in not winning any of the trophies. L. Staples and Mrs. W. Phiilips, the Manakau Club's top players, won all the A grade events between them. The win of D. Murray, a coilege student, in the B grade singles was popular, as was that of Miss J. Hudson, of Ohau, in the ladies' sec'don. The winners of the ' C grade titles, K. Harry and Miss E. Snowdon, are first-year Manakau ! players. I At the conclusion of play and following the serving of supper, the president of the association, Mr. J. Bryant, thanked the committee and all responsible for making the fixture the success it had been. He also thanked the donors of trophies.
