Dispute Over Dairy Factory Lorry Drivers

WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Workers' advocates were on opposite sides of the table at a hearing before the Arbi+ration Oourt todav. The parties at variance were the New Zealaml Drivers' Federation (Mr A. G. Melville) and the New Zealand Dairv Factory Employees' Union ( ATr L. Eobertson). The Court was asked to decido which union 's nward should cover drivers " substantially " engaged in the cartage of dairy produce. The rules of the two unions were said to overlap and argument centred on which union Was competent to cover these drivers. The issue is the principle objection preeluding the eompletion of the new Drivers' Federation Award already part-settled in Conciliation Couneil. The Dairy Workers' Union, the Court was told, has its own dispute filed for hearing. Its proposals seelc to cover the drivers in question.
