Army Flies Are Searched, Says Ex-Serviceman
NELSON, Sept. 13. An ex-setviceman of Nelson, said today that he had had experience wtoeh showed that war record files were not kept confidential. He had a bus driver's job in Nelson in 1947 on a temporary licence, but lost that employment because the licenee was cancelled 'by the transport authorities on the ground that he had a charge of drunkenness against hira in the Army in about 1941. Later he was engaged for a job driving a petrol wagon, but did not get it for the same reason, his intended employers delaying appointment until they had checked on his Army record. The man added that his experience made it plain that people were given aceess to soldiers' files, othqrwise they could not have learned of the 1941 Army. charge against hirm On no occasion had he been approached for permission to search his file. He was five years in the Army three years overseas.
