Brown (Manawatu) when the annual confereco of the North Island Motor Eni°n Hawera yesterday decided to recommend suggestions brought forward by a subcommitee on car conversions to the Minister of Justiee in dealing with offepders. In the report of the sub-committee, Mr. F. G. Farrell (Auckland) raeommended: (a), a minimum penalty- for car conversion, except in the case of a first offender; (b), that a convicted person be compelled to make good any damage caused in the manner of a flne; (c), that a convieted porson be prohibited from holding a liceBSe fqr. a period of two years. Mu Earreff said the sub-committee was aware that the vast majoirty of offenders who came before the Court.s had a long list of previous convictions, alsq if .the offender was Ordered to pay damages, he might not do it, but if this was ordered in the form of a line a refuphl would amount to contempt-of Cdurt. |
