An invitation was received from, the Minister of Works fpr memtoers of the council to attpnd the 25th anniversary of the openipg of the Mangahao Hydrp gtation, wlrich will take place on Saturdayj September 24. The inyitation was accepted by the Mayor and counpiliors. Cr-. Clayton, chairman of the reserves committee, repoyfed that the pruning of the tj?e§s ori the streets and in the heautifying areas was now comPleted, and that he had arranged _ for the domain to be grased with sheep until the commencement of the cricket season. Where it was re^ quired holes in the- playing field would be fill-ed and grass seed sown. On the motion of Cr. Dqwnes, it was resolved that the council's photographs of the oonstruetion of Mangahao be loaned to the Public Works Department for the forthcoming an.niyersary celetorations. Cr. Bateman, chairman of the building committee, tabled two minor applicafipns for building permits which he stated we?e in order, and upon his mot|on they were granted. The acting-phairman ' of the library committee, Cr. Dqwnes, furnished a report on the finanrcial position of the library and stated that the general seryice provided by the library was very SQOd. , , The town clerk was directed to write the local carriers pointing out that damage was 'bging done to concrete kerbing and footpaths by heavy trucks, and advising that they would be held responsible for damage. As the Mayor will b§ absent from Shannon on September 27, it was resolyed to hold the next meeting of the council on Oetober 4. On the motion of Cr. Clayton, an account for wages amounting to £55 17s was passed for paymept.
