The New Zealand flag which was flown at every ground during the matches played by. the New Zealand cricketers throughout their tour of England is now the property of the Rhine Army. It was presented to Generai Sir Charles Keightley, the Army's commander, by Mr. J. H. Phillipps, the team's manager, at the end of the game against Combined Services (Germany), which New Zealand won by seven wickets with ten minutes to go. In making the presentation, Mr. Phillipps asked General Keightley to aecept the flag as a memento of an enjoyable occasion. He said: "It has never flown over an unhappv match and I hope it brings you luck." General Keightley thanked Mr Phillipps and the team for the pleasure they had given to thousands by their visit to Bad Oeynhausen and asked Mr. Phillipps to accept the flag of the Rhine Armv Which flew beside the New Zealand flag during the present match. He hoped it would be flown anywhere in New Zealand whenever a suitable occasion arose. "You have made many friends here who will never forget you," he added. General Keightley shook hands with each member of the team. It was yet another pleasant incident of the enioyable game. Excitinsr Finlsh. Hadlee and Burtt took the New Zealand first innings to 248, adding 58 in half an hour. to which Hadlee contributed 48. He hit s^x fours off seven bafls and was 65 not out. This gave New Zealand a lead on the first innings of 105. ' Combined Services replied with 188. Hadlee a°:ain gave his team the ooportunity of bowling, and Donnelly had an unbroken spell of two hours, taking four for 68. After tea, Smith, who had held a p'ood ratch at sauare leg, kept wicket, allowing Reid to have a bowl too. Reid took two for two. New Zealand had to make 84. in 65 minutes. In an exciting finish, Sutcliffe, Donnelly, Smith and Hadlee made useful additions and it was left to Reid and Wallace to hit the final runs. This they did lustily. Details : —
