Home And School Association Meets
The monthly meeting of the Otaki Home and School Association last week drew a pleasing attendance bf . some 40 members who listened with keen interest to an address by Mr. J. Green, vocational guidance. offlcer. Mr. Green was accompanied by Misses Kennedy and Williams, of the Guidance Oflice. , In outlining the system, the speaker advised that his oflice adopted the policy of dividing the work into four sections, the preparation for, the choice of, the entry into, and assistance with, the sucoessful accomplishment of the various tasks selected by pupils. Mr. Green -cited instances of how the system worked and added that although established for 11 years, the work had expanded considerably since taken over by the Education Department six years ago. He counselled parents to avail themselves of the opportunit?^ presented in obtaining the services of this important branch of present day education. At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Green was accorded a hearty vote of thanks moved by Mr. O. H. E. Yates, who stated that he had had experience of the successful working of the Guidance Oflice. Questions were presented to the offlcers and much information was gleaned in this- manner. Congratulations were offered the small band of women workers who have , organised a series of successful card evenings for school funds, and it was agreed that for October the association's meeting would take the form of a card evening. and social. Organising committees were appointed and the meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 4. The chairman, Mr. R. Bills, who •had earlier conveyed a cordial welcome to the guest speaker and his assistants, on behalf of parents, offered congratulations to the headmaster and staff for the memorable Arbor Day ceremony which was performe'4 at the school and for the success achieved by the school patrol which was recently filmed. Before the meeting concluded Mr.' Yates reported that the gala day committee had had great difiiculty in selecting a day that was not already booked for its function, but expected to be able to advise the date finally selected in the very near future.
