Greyhound Meeting Draws Good Attendance
Another successful day - was enjoyed by the Otaki -Rahui Greyhound Racing Club when its second piciiic meeting took: .place at Otaki at the weekend-. • There was a very" good attendance and apart from one or two unrehearsed and' unavoidable incidents . the meeting was well cpnducted' and the club was commended for its efflcient organisation. Two races had to be re'-run. The first occasion- was when the Saplings field, which comprised young dogs from nine to. 18 months old, created a diversion by I chasing one another instead of chasing the "hare." ( The second unrehearsed inc'ident also the result of a re-run. In the Maiden Flat one of the two starters left the box slowly and a loeal dog, • Bronstar, came home on his own. To satisfy the owner of the other . candidate, a visitor from Palmerston North, a re-run was agreed to. Again Branstar left smartly, with his opponent again loath to leave. The latter soon retired and Bronstar, evidently of the opinion that two "walk-overs" was too much of a good thing, lay. down on the job when half way down the straight. After a spe 1 of three or four minutes, he completed the course. A later examination revealed that' a nerve centre was affected, hence tne uog oaking !rhe respite. Following the afternoon tea adjournment the club's president called his committee together and on the club's behalf paid tribute to the wonderful help given by Mr. L. Kennedy, of Upper Hutt, presenting him " with a small gif t. Thanks were also expressed to Mr. S. Whiteman for enabling the club to co-nduct its meetings in his paddock. Results were- as follows: — Open Flat: Red Horizon (Mrs. Pawson, Palmerston North) 1, Rena 2, Tradition 3; 24 3-5. Maiden Hurdles: Whero (fi. D. Holloway, Palmerston North) 1, Pop's Gift 2; 28 3-5. Open Hurdles No. 1: Soneri (D. Arbuthnot, Palmerston North) 1, Master Mariner 2, Nigger Boy 3; 3.27, a traek record over hurdles. Puppies' Race: Sailor's Grip (H. Rosjsiter, Palmerston North) 1, Miss Mariner 2, Black Pool Sam 3; 24 2-5. Saplings: Lady Nahleen (G. A. Sinclair, Otaki) 1, Legal 2, Sunshine 3; 29 3-5. Maiden Flat: Bronstar (R. R. Booth, secs. •. . Progress Hurdles No. 1: Disdain (R. R. Booth, Otaki) 1, Boston City 2; 29 secs. In this event Narrow Escape, when leading, jumped out of the track and aithough first past the post was disqualified. Open Hurdles No. 2: Soneri (D. Arbuthnot)' 1, Master Mariner 2, Master Luna 3; 26 4-5. Novice Flat: Whero (D. E. Holloway) 1, Pop's Gift 2, Lady Foxbridge 3; 24 4-5. Veterans' ■ Flat: The Toff (T. Kenny, Masterton) 1, Colombine 2; 25 secs. Progress Hurdles No. 2: Narrow Escape (W. and B. Boyce, Masterton) 1, Master Luna 2; 28 1-5. Limit Flat: Eros (F. J. and M. Cleary, Upper Hutt) 1, Black Pool Sam 2, Tai Fung 3; 24 1-5. Ladies' Plate: Rena (F. J. and M. Cleary )1, Red Horizon 2, Tradition 3; 23 4-5, a new track record. Consolation races went to Nigger Boy (R. Collis, Otaki) and Lucky Helen (P. Brunell, Otaki). Otaki-owned candidates had quite a good day. Bronstar and Disdain won for R. R. Booth, while Pop's Gift secured a brace of seconds for R. S. Booth. The Saplings was a triumph for Otaki, the winner being owned by G. Sinclair, the second by B. Lumsden and third by C. Pussell. Master Luna secured a second and a third for A. A. Brooks, Black Pool Sam ran a second and a third for F. Brunell, while Boston Citv was second and Nigger Boy third for R. Collis. In addition both consolation races were won by local dogs.
