Jockey Fatally Injured At Carterton

i MASTERTON, Sept. 11. Severe head injuries frdm which he died an hour later in the Masterton hos■pital, were received bv Murrav George Ridgway, an apprentice n0(,kev of Otaki, and formerlv of Upper Riccarton, during the rtmning of the Bunnv Memorial Hack Handicap at the Carterton Racing Club's meeting on Saturday afternoon. Ridgway was riding Kiwi Swan, 13th favourite in a field of 17, when in front of the main stand iust after the start it was crossed by Roval Baron. Kiwi Swan fell, broke its neclc and j-olleri twice on its .ioekey. Ridgway was rushed by ambulance to the Masterton* Hospital where he died at 5.5 p.m. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Georee Ridgway. TTpper Riccarton, the lad who was aged 36 years, was apprenticed to the Otaki trainer, G. S. Walton. In the previous race he had gainod his first winning ride on Castlebrae in the Open Sprint. An inquirv was opened immediatelv by the judicial committee of the Carterton Racinor Club when R. A. Jenkins. apprentice rider. Masterton, was eharged with having crossed too suddenlv on his mount Royal Baron, thus cauisng interference. After hearip^ pffidepce the charge was adiourned sine die. Tn Masterton this morning an inqnest was opened before M^. T-. J Taylor, District Coroner. and after e\ndcnce of identification was also adjourned sine die.
