BASKETBALL NOTES
Horowhenua Runners-l)p At Big Tourney , (By "Forward") Last weekend the Horowhenua Basketbali Association's representative 'B team emerged section runners-up from the Kurungaituku tournament, held "annually at Rotorua. This year 95 teams from all parts of the North Island -took part. ' The Horowhenua team's performance is all the more meritorious in view of the fact that it was 'the youngest combination participating. ■ On .the Friday Horowhenua won all four games p ayed, defeating Waipa 9—^3, Middlemore .14 — 0, Coasoal Taranaki 8 — 4 and' winning by default from Otaki. On Saturday the team met Whakatane to sUffer defeat by 16 goais to eight. Jean Arcus, who captained the team, deserves great cre'dit for the manner in which she carried out her duties and for her consistently good play. Kura Hughes as forward and Vivien Fogden as defence both played skilful basketbali. Competitions Resume. On Saturday the A and B grade teams wiil reeommence theii games to complete the second round of the competition. In the A grade Wan'derers are still in the lead, while in the B grade Texti.e and Punhau hold the lead. Athletic, however, are creeping up and should prove strong opponents to these two teams. The C grade games have been compieted, 'the winners being Conveno A, wno have playea throughout the season without a ioss. Primary A are the runnersup. The C grade teams .are engible to enter the all-day tournament which wiil close ihe basketbali season on Octoper 1.
