Sticking To Labour Party
AtJCKLAXD, September 7. A motion to rlisaffiliiate from tlie/Lftbour Party was. (lefeated at a meeting of the Auckland Drivers' thliou on Tuesday night, by throe votes. This was st'ated by the secretary of the Union, Mr. L. G. Mattliews, to-dav. He saicl there was not a large proportion of the Union 's membership present. It was regarded as a good attendance. Every eflfort had been made to publieise the meeting.
"There was a long and healthy discussion occupving the best part of ail hour and a half, said Mr. MftttheWS. It had been deeided not to proceed with another proposal that the Union secede from the Federation of Labour as there was no speaker present representing the Federation as Was provided for in such cases. Another subject discussed at length had been the questiou of dii'ty cargoes. ^Tr. klatthews added. There had been dissatisfaction with the arrJtngements over the bulk wheat cargo of the Glenpark, including special payments which, it was stated, had been promised but never made. Other types of cargo were also considered, botli dirtv and injurious. Tlie meeting unanimously adopted a resolution instructirtg the officers of the Union "lo proceed on all direct elaims made by members and to use every endeavour to achieve the just claims ot the rospectiye drivers."
