Retired Admiral Missing From His Home
AUCKLAND, Sept. 0. An iutensive searcli for a retired British naval oflieer who has been missj ing from his home at Takapuna sinee Mouday morning, was conducted in the Glenfield district north of Birkenhead, today by the police and a party from H.M.N.Z.S. Philoniel. Missing is BearAdmiral (E) , Harry Smalley Briggs, O.B.E., B.N. (retired), aged 72, who lives with his wife at Takapuna. It was Rear-Admiral Briggs' eustom_ to drive from his home to a Glenfield farm each Monday to obtain eggs and he left :
on this mission at 9 a.m. yesterday. ' It was also his custom on these occasions to leave his ear and take a walk. However, on this occasion he did not reach the farm and he did not ret.urn to his home. The search for the missing man was begun this morning. The deserted ear was found at the side of the road three-quarters of a mile from the farmliouse which he had set out to visit. The ignition kev was missing and the doors locked. Tliroughout the day searcliers patrolled the roads and woriced through scrub in the hilly eountry Imt tlieir eft'orts were unsuceessful anu at nightfall the search was postponeu until tomorrow morning.
