Fashion Parade Provided Much Of Interest

The fashion parade conducted in the Regent Hall last evening provided much of interest for the large number of women who attended, and the beautiful array of spring and summer gowns worn .gave rrfuch food for thought and discussion. The parade commenced purtctually at 8 o'clock and the manner in which it was carried through, together with the general arrangements to ensure the smooth working of the evening, were the subject of much comment from those fortunate enough to be present. Prior to the commencement of proceedings, Mr. N. D. Tilley, on behalf of the Levin Junior Chgmber of Commerce, said that Mr. C. M. Wallace had approached the chamber with a suggestion that the parade be held and that the proceeds be donated to the Levin Nursery Play Centre. As the cause was a worthy one, Mr. Til'ey said he had lost no time in pushing on with the arrangements in cooperation with Mr. Wallace. He thanked those present for attending and invited them to urge their friends to attend the final session tonight, thus assisting the centre. On behalf of the play centre, the president, Mrs. H. B. Burdekin, said, she was deeply indebted to the sponsors and organisers of the parade for ^he generous offer of assisting the funds of the centre. Unfortunately the centre was faced with considerahle rises in costs at the present time. This, combined with the fact that the centre was sending its supervisors to Palmerston North and Wellington to receive instruction in child psychology and the general arrangements pertaining to these centres, had necessitated a sligljit increase in charges and endeavours to arrange further ways of subsidising r'.s financ.es. Mrs. Bm'dekin concluded by extending the centre's thanks to Messrs Wallace 's for providing the gowns, shoes and aecessories worn, to the Moderne Beauty Balon for arranging the hair styles," to Messrs J. W. Lynch, Ltd., for supplying the carpets, to the'-manne-quins who had given their services voluntarily, to Mr. W. L. Clark for the sound arrangements, "The Chronicle" for supplying the tickefcs and the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce,., with Mr. Tilley at the- head, -for -the general arrangements. These services, which were entirely free, had ensured that a handsome sum would he availahle to the centre. ,Mrs. Burdekin v then deciared the parade open. The- ladies of the centre provided a very dainty su^per for the mannequins and organisers during the interval, and this was much appreciated. s . The parade will conclude with

the showing. tonight and with a large number of tickets sold intending patrons are advised to be seated early. The doors will be closed between each showing.
