Dental Nurse Farewelled
W Prior to the closing of the Shannon School for the term vacatioh,. opportunity was taken to farewell Miss M. K. Gardner, dental' nurse at the school, who takes up her new du.ties at the Levin Dental Clinic at the bomrriencement of the third term. At a special £athering in Miss Gardner's honour, the chairman of the school committee, Mr. A. E. Jeffrey, referred to the long Service that Miss Gardner had . given -to Shannon and the district. After extending thanks to the guest of honour on behalf bf the committee for the conscientious manner in which she had carried out her duties, Mr. Jeffrey wished her well in her new position and asked her to accept a handbag as a tangible token of the committee's appreciation. | The headmaster, Mr. F. O. Burtt, •remarked upon the cordial relations that had exi'sted between Miss Gardner and the other members of the staff and thanked her for her co-operation. Mr. Burtt commended Miss Gardner upon the success of her efforts to put the younger pupils at their ease when receiving tfeatment. School children attended the clinic much more fearlessly than might be expected. In making a presentation on behalf of the teaching staff, Mr. R. D. Patrick assured Miss Gardner that she would he missed* at the school and hoped that she would be as happy at Levin as she had been at Shannon. . 1 . I In -her reply, Miss- Gardner I thanked the committee, the head1 master and the teaching staff for the kindness shown to her during her years1 at Shannon. Having been jin the clinic for 13 years she had Iseen many changes and had had to deal with a greatly increased inumber of patients as time had passed. The arrahgements recently made for the pupils of Forms 1 and 2 to attend private practitioners was a temporary one arranged by the department in order to give an opportunity to the_ nurse to give more time to the teeth of the younger children. Miss Gardner said that she was sorry to be leaving Shannon, but she was now to be nearer to her , home and that was the reason for Iher moving. After thanking the i committee and the staff for the i gifts, which she said would remind ! her of her happy days in Shannon, , Miss Gardner expressed the wish that her successor would enjoy her time at Shannon as she had done. I At the final assembly of the school for the term, the headmaster, after informing the pupils of Miss Gardner's impending dej parture and wishing her success in 1 her new appointment, took the opportunity to introduce the new dental nurse, Miss S. V. Gardner. Doreen Moss, on behalf of the ' pupils of the school, then presented Miss Gardner with a pair of vases I and expressed the wish that her memories of Shannon would be ; happy ones and that she would be successful and happy in her new clinic. Miss Gardner suitably replied.
