It was an enjoyahle day's cricket. Hadlee was magnificent and Eahone, in reaching four iigures, rarely batted better' in England. Smith, who was another candidate for 1000 runs, halved his residue and now requires only 22. Festival play differs in the hours of play from other first-class matches. They are from noon to 6 p.m. and the players have tea on the field. South of England fielded a strong team with Mann as captain and four more who played in the Tests this year: Compton, Edrieh, Bailey and Evans.
