Daylight Limiteds To Be Given Trial
♦ ' WELLINGTON, Sept. 1T The Railways Department proposes to I'un daylight Limited expresses between Wellington and Auckland for a trial period during Labour Day weekend. This was mentioned by the acting General Manager, Mr. E. H. Langford, today. The serviee is expected to run from Auckland to Wellington on Friday, October 21-, and Labour Day, Monday, October 24, and in the other direction ■ on Saturday, October 22, and. Tuesday, October 25. The "two north-bound -journqys have been pianned to give a gQod connection for. passepgers on the cSouthIsland Limited express .pn the preceding days. , v The tentatiVfe tiinetalile provides for departure .from Auckland at 8.10 a.m. and arrival at Wellington at 10 p.m., and departure from ^Wellington at 8 a.m. and arrival at Auckland at 9.55 p.m. Tliese -times show a eonsiderabie reduction on the running times of the daylight expresses before the war. Tliese earlier expresses were withdrawn because of poor patronage. Hostesses will be provided on the daylight Limited expresses. Special compartments and necessary facilities will enable them to care for elderly people and mothers with young children. Both the daylight Limited expresses and the provision of hostesses will be regarded as trials only in the meantime. If the expresses are satisfactorily patronised consideration will be. given to running them during the summer montlis.
