Scientists today reported that they had found a methQd tp prptect animals agaipst the deadlv atom rays. v Announcing the discovery, the Argonne National* Lab oratory at Chicago, said: "These findings may provide important clues ahout raai-. ation damage and its treatment.' ? It, was found that 70 or 80 uep eent of mice and rats given usually fatal doses of radiation, did not die if first given cvsteine which is an pxpensive acid containing sulphur. It was generally preuared frpm horsehair or wool. Abont. 8Q per cent of the untreated animals were killed.
