Firemen Receive Service Awards
Several members of the Shannon Volunteer Mre Brigade were presented with service awards by the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, at the annual ball of "the brigade,' held in the Druids' Hall last Thursday evening. Prior to presenting the awards, Mr. Fitzgerald extended congratulations to the brigade on the excellent voluntary work which members were so ably carrying out. * Theirs was a duty which served the community, and the people of Shannon were proud of their fire brigade and those men who gave their services to safeguard homes and property. He concluded by extending congra- s tulations to the brigade on another successful year and those members who were being honoured for their long service. Mr. Fitzgerald then called upon the foliowing members to come forward and receive their awards; — Bar to five-year medal: Superintendent C. D. Gyde, Deputy Superintendent F. Clough, Secretary C. Tremewan, Firemen W. Clough, G. McEwen, D. . Richards, W. S. Forbes, N. Richards and C. G. Wishart. Foreman K. Clough was awarded a three-year certifieate. The trophy for the snooker competition was won this year by Mr. C. D. Gyde and. inE. making "this presentation 'tlie ikayor Tremarked on the social side of the brigade's activities. Superintendent Gyde, replying on behalf of the brigade, expressed the sincere thanks of members to the Mayor for attending and making the presentations and to the public for their support. . A number of visiting brigadesmen yere present at the function.
