Maddened Bullock Causes Farmer's Death
o A maddened Hereford bullock cliarged tlie crowd at Dannevirke saleyards at 3 p.m. yesterday and i. trying to escape from it an elderlv olieepfarmer fell lieadlirst on to a concrete race in the ring eight feet below. He died almost immediately from a fractured skull and lacerations to the brain. He was: — JAMES DAVID INGLIS, aged 77, married, of Katahiwi, Woodville. When the incident occurred the public rostrum was about two-thirds f ull. The beast jumped a six foot rail from the ring and mounted the Fostrum, running up the steps towards a large number of farmers and stock buyers. The crowd seattered before the charge but Mr. Inglis' son, James Alexander Hilton Inglis, was knocked otf balanee by the bullock. It is not kno'wn wliether the deceased man wras pushed or whether he fell, but when he was reached he was unconscious and died • before medieal aid could be obthined. :The beast was captured almost immediately without troiible. Mr. Inglis" ieaves a widow and grown up son and daughter.
