The High daily average of occupied beds at the Palmerston North JPublic HoSpital has had the effeet of prolonging • waiting lists with the resul.t that non-urgent patients have to wait a considerable Jime before they can be admitted and, on occasions, waiting list beds have to be cancelled t(o make room -for urgent admissions, accordingr to ' the mohthiy report of the acting medieal superinteudant, Dr J. D. Willis, presented to the monthly meet* ing of the Ilospital Board yesterday. The daily average nurnber of occupied beds remains high, he said, and showed a slight increase last -■ month from 338.5 to 340.9. The increase is probably accounted for by the incrgased number of admissions during the mpnth, 462 as against 446 for June, and tne redueed number of discharges, 339 as against 470 for June. The ouly cases of uotifiable diseasea during the month were two cases of scarlet fever. The number of birtlis in the board 's maternity homes in Palmerston North during the month increased by two.
