Otaki Brass Band's Annual Meeting
^ The annual meeting of the Otaki Brass Band was held recently, when M[r. H. Taylor presided over an enthusiastic attendance of bandsmen. The general pubiic, however, were poorly represented, although seven apologies were rendered. The annual report, presented by the secretary, Mr. A. Lumley, read as follows: — "It is with regret that we record the passing of a very keen supporter in the person of Mr. H. WiLchell, who for many years was the auditor and took an active interest in the band's affairs. "The thanks of the band are again due to our bandmaster, Mr. Dinnison, who throughout the year has given of his best and conscieiitiously striven to make a good band out of a limited number of players. Deputy-Bandmaster White is still carrying on with the good work of tutoring boys for future bandsmen and we would like to record our appreciation of his patience and perseverance in carrying out this most necessary phase of the band's activities. ! "One gratifying feature of the year has been the settling of tlie ; band in a hall with some degree of ; 'permanency. Early in March tlie ; band ehtered into a contract with ;'tlie Druids' Lodge to lease their hall which had been renovated and a licence was obtained for reletting. This project is as yet in its infancy, but owing to the untiring efforts of some members of the ladies' committee in raising money by holding regular fortnightly card evenings it has been a suecess financially. We tender our thanks to the ladies and to all who have assisted with these functions as there has been a large : amount of work done in connection with same. "The Bandoliers' marching team, sponsored by the band, perfonned very creditably again during the season, and we would like to compliment the team on being placed on. several occasions, and. would congratulate the teana's leader, Miss Doreen Bills, and Uhe deputyleader, Miss E. Taylor, on their .successes, with special praise for the organisers of the outstandingly successful marching day held at Otaki. "The band has not made very many pubiic appearances, but has : always been on hand for special occasions. Chief of these has been the Anzac Day parades at Manakau and Otaki, the Otaki races, the marching championships, and we 1 have assisted both Levin and Foxton- bands on similar occasions, besides playing at the Sanatorium, Health Camp, town and railway, ' during the festive season. "In conclusion may we express our thanks to all who have by their practical interest helped tlie band and its finances throughout the year. We trust also that the ensuing year will see increased band activities, and continued pubiic interest and support. "It has been with a great deal i of regret that illness has compelled me personally to curtail my activities with the band, but I will
always be interested in its welfare, and will do what I can to iassist its progress." Election Of Officers. Offlcers for the ensuing year were e.ected as follows: — ^Patron, Mr. H. B.
