AUCKLAND RELIEVED
AUCKLAND, August. 18. The resumption of normal hours -oi work on the Auckland waterfront wili bring about early relief to the present shortage of potatoes in the city. During the holdup most city retailers were foreed to ration supplies to customers although over 10,000 sacks are on hand. At the wharves two coastal ships, Wai pori and Waiana, have large shipmentof potaotes and as soon as work on the . ships starts again, it is expected mer chants will collect their sliipments im mediateiv and distribute supplies directo retailers. Ample supplies of potatoes were awaitiug shipnient north at Lyttelton and otber southern ports, said Mr R. C. Haszard, sec.retarv of the Auckland Seed, Grain and Produce
Merchants' Association. By the time the present shipments had been discharged, there would probably be a new shipnient from the south iu port as tho Karitane has been loading potatoes at Lyttelton. Local and North Tsland supniies will not be ou the market for another two months.
