^ f MASTERTON, Aug. 18. As a temporary measure in view of the fact that it would take *at least three years to brihg into operation the major . scheme for off-course betting, it would shortly be possible for people to telegraph money to racecourse secretaries for investment on t^e totalisator, said the president of the Masterton Racing Club, Mr. J. A. Betts, at the annual meeting of the club Jast night. When the major scheme of the New Zealand Racing and Trotting Conferences was instituted, the outcome should' be a great increase in totalisator turno'vers. In the meantime, Mr. Betts added, the wiring of money to the course was going to bfe an added worxy for secretaries^
