Youth Admits Theft From Bank
DUNEDIN, August 15. The theft of £100 from the North Dunedin branch of the Dunedin Savings Banlc on the niorning of July 27 last was admitted by a clerk employed in the bank, Bruce Alexander John Shanks, aged 17 years and inine months, when he appeared before Mr" Wills, B.hl., in the Magistrate 's Court, this afternoon. Shanks was committed to the Supreme Court for sentenee, bail being allowed. ... - Accused 's counsel, klr G. J. White, read a statemenfc from Dr. D. G,!jMcMillan, stating that Shanks had been under his care since September,' 1941, and that he had been operated on last year for a brain tumor. Shanks received daily doses of a drug whicb has "dulled his inental processes. The Magistrate: Do I upderstand that he is tinable to distinguish between right and wrong? Mr Whitei Yes.
