Airways Losses Cost Mint Of Money
WELLINGTON, August .16. The losses incurred by Btate operated; airways are revealed in part in the report of the Gontroller and Auditor-. General, presented in the House of Representatives today. The New Zealand Government paid half of Tasman Empire Airways' esti-, mated operational loss for the year ended March 31, 1949. This siiare amounted to £S5,000. To offset the revenue deficit ori the Pacific regional serviees of New Zealand National Airways Corporation/ £21,734 was paid to the corporation covering the period November 1, 1947,. to March 31, 194S. British Gommonwealth Pacific Air-' lines also showed losses and New'Zea-> land paid 30 per eent of it for the | period June 24, 1946, to June 30, 1948, auiounting to £58,110. A further sum S amounting to -£.48,387 for the year ended June 30 this year, will. come to charge soon. 1 ■
