Greyhound Club Plans For Race Meeting

• The mohthly me'eting of ,'the. Otaki-Rahui'- Greyhound Racing Club was held recently, when there was: a good, attendance of - members. ' " • The schedule for the race meeting was discussed and it was deci'ded1 to hold nine flat rac'es and flve hiirdle Taces on September 11, eommehcing dt 1.30 p.m.; ■ The club has' receiVed advice from the National Coursing Association that there has been an alteration in the hurdie classification. The former classi'ng was [maiden, novice, limit and open hurdles, which all dog owners thought was quite good, and after ione win a dog went up one class, iwhile three misses brought ' a dog iback one class except to maiden. T|he new' classing is maiden, progress |and open hurdles, which 'dog owners do not favour. Novice and j limit dogs will have to race against each other in progress class, and it is hard on the owners and also tougher on young hurdie dogs. :Moreoyer, when an open cnass dog has three hurdie misses, he can only come .back to progress and, therefore, can only move in those ciasses. The owners are awaiting further advice so they can make a strong stand against "progress" .hurdie classing. The club also 'discussed the Sun,day night concert to be held on jAugust 28, commencing at 8.15 Ip.m., by the Kilbirnie Concert Party. Assisting with the pro--gramme will be the Murray children. Deep regret was expresed for the loss of White Satin, who raced at the club's opening meeting and won three races on the day for her owner, the capable announcer, Mr. Les Kennedy, of Kaitoke. White Satin was in the third round of the N.Z. Waterloo Cup and led Eros pa st the judges' box, but the hare was turned an'd doubled back up field. A long course was ended when Eros snap- . ped up the hare. White Satin iwhipped to be in at the kill but joverran, crashing into the boundary fence to break her neck. The local club telegraphed Mr. Kennedy expressing sympathy.
