French Families Flee Before Forest Fires
Received Tuesday, 10 a.m. PARIS, August 15. The whole of ihe Gironde district in southwest France was ringed today by forest fires. The prefect of Gironde has mobilised men from 16 to 65 years to fight the flames, which are spreading fast because of the prolonged drought. Countless families are fleeing From their threatened homes, taking what furniture and belongings they can. The roads have a long stream of caravans resembling the retreat when French refugees fied from the advancing German Army.
