MASTERTON, Aug. 9. With continual rain, which was fairly heavy in the night, the rivers in various narts of ihe Wairarapa are carrying more than their full vo^ume of water and manv' have broken their banks and flooded. low-lying country. • There is practically a sea of water round Martinborough and the town is temporarily cut ofT from oiitside comm\inication. I At Tinui and Ihe East Coast much land is under water and slips are bloekihgs the roads in 'South Wairarapa. A fafrly big area is flqoded but no serious damage has yet been recorded. Although heavy rain has fal'en in the Masterton district, no flooding has occurred except storm water on the ou skirts of the town. Having received a warning of possible flooding, farmers have removed their stock to highe'r coun--try.
