Can Regulate Timepiece in Half a Tick
AUCILbAND, AugllSt 8. More people now can have their watches regulated in half a tick. It can De aone witn an eiectricai mstrument first seen here ahout two years ago and now becoming general in watchmakers' shops. Iake a doctor's stethoscope, it listens to the tick of a watch or clock and helps to diagnoss its ills. What is more it writes the diagnosis on a graph at the same time. If the graph recording is a straight line, it is accurate. If it deviates right or left the timepiece is gaining or losing and can he regulated accordingly. The graph recording can disclose other defects. A weak mainspring, for example, produces a zigzag pattern. Watchmakers in Auckland say the machine "saves a lot of time."
