Handout By State For Children
WELLINGTON, August 4. Eamilies in which there were ten or more children receiving the family henefit, increased during the year ended March 31 last, from 287 to 360, states the annual report of the Social Security Department when tahled in the House of Representatives today. The total numher of henefits at the end of the financial year was 248,726, repres°ntin? an increase for the year of 5589. These benefits represented payments in respect of 548,330 children ns against 521,394 children the previous year. Age benefits and pensions, exa.luding wnr ■pensions, paid during the voar ended. March .31 last, cost £34,455,758. For the previous vear the payments amounted to £32,774,325. The paympnts were as follow, with last vear's figures in narentheses.
