Girl Charged With Stealing Wristlet Watch
Charged with the theft of a wristlet watch, a Maori girl, whosc name was suppressed was charged in the Magistrate's Court, Levin, today. She pleaded guilty. Sergeant W. Grainger, prosecuting, said that accused had been smployed as a housemaid in a hotel. She had taken the watch, which was the property of the daughter of the licensee. As it was not functioning. she had given it to a boy to get repaired. When he had later 'attempted to return it to her he had found she had left the hotel and her address was not known. The watch had been recovered by the police from the boy on the eve of his departure by boat frohi New Zealand. The boy had stated that "he had been unahle to locate accused, and that he had no knowledge of the watch h&ving originally been stolen. She was convicted and discharged, and ordered to return the watch, by Mr. A. A. McLachlari, S,M. .
