Ex-P.O.W.'s Gratitude To German Prince
LOXDOK, August 2. Prince Waldemar zu llohenlohe, a German nobleman who was formerly comuuindant of the prisouer-of-war camp at Blachhaminer, in Silesia, has arrived iu Britain as the guest of Mi George Wickenden, a Bwanseombe butclier's assistaut, who was one of the inmatps of the Blachhammer camp during the vvar. Alr Wickenden paid the Prince 's fare from Germanv and oifered to put him up for one week as a mark of gratitude for the good treatment he received when he was a prisoner of war. A number of other former inmates of the Blachhammer camp have also asked the Prince to~ stay with them while he is in Britain. The Prince, who has not»visited London since 1912 said: "I feel very honoured that I have been remembered in this way. All I tried to do during the war was to make life tolerable for the men in the camp, but the Xazis did not like my methods. I was demoted and sent to Italy as an interpreter in 1944." . The Prince was met at London airport by a son of his former English nurse. He said that one of his chief ambitions during his visit was to liear Alr Churchill spealc.
