King Commends Woman For Bravery
-Received Tuesday 11.25 p.m. . LONDON, August 2. Mrs Eliza Gardner, a 40-year-old 18 stone motheF of eight children, has- received the King 's commendation for brave conduct in rescuing an invalid girl trapped in a burning house. Mrs Gardner, with a blanket over her head, fought her way to the girl's bed room and helped her into the arms of people below. Mrs Gardner then jumped 14 feet and hurt a leg and her back. "They call we ten-ton Liz but 1 am only 18 stone and light on my feet at that," she said.
