Personal. m ' . Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taylor, oi Otaki Railway, paid a short visit to Napier at the weekend. Miss Sylvia Fox, of Rangiuru, has left for Nelson on a.holiday visit. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Barber, of Seatoun, have taken up residence in Otaki, where they have purchase'd the business of Lowry's, Ltd. The two visiting footballers who were forced to leave the field on Saturday because of injuries were li'ttle the worse for their mishaps. G. Glass, of Wairoa, was apparently struck on a nerve and after receiving medical treatment was much improved. The senior player,' Blake, was li'ttle the worse for his mishap and was able to take part in the festivities later in tha day.
Good Football Gate. The takings at the Otaki Domain on Saturday when the two representa'tive fifteens met amounted to £57 15s. This figure is considered a record football gate for otaki. Whitebait Catches Larger. Some very satisfactory catches of whitebait are reported to have been made over the weekend, with one or two securing enough to have some small quantities for sale. As usual, a ready market was found. Flood Damage. The large flood in the Otaki River on Wednesday and Thursday last created anxiety by threatening to again cut in behin'd Mr. Crystal's farm, adjacent to the racecourse, A conference of engineers and officials was held on the *site yesterday, and urgent work is being done in the locality.
Visiting Concert Party. A party from the Te Aroha (Hutt Valley) Maori Clup visited Otaki on Sunday night, when an entertainment was staged in the Civic Theatre. The attendance was not large, but.those present expressed their appreciation of the variety of numbers presented. Highlights were hakas by the "warriors," while many graceful action songs, poi dances, etc., were very well done and enthusiastically received. School Basketball Games. On Friday last the Otaki State School basketball team played against, Te Horo B, the latter winning by 10 goals to three. A second game between junior teams from each school was won by Otaki State by 10 goals to one. The referees were Misses Beverley and Lumsden. A practice match, with the Southern Horowhenua A and B teams taking part, will be held on Saturday next at 10 a.m. a,t the Otaki school. Footballers Attend Dance. The Rahui juniors and their supporters organised a dance on Saturday as part of the entertainment for the visiting Wairoa team. This was held at Te Horo and the attendance was most satisfactory. The hall had been decorated especially for the occasion, and variety. was the order. Dancing was interspersed with items and novelty dances were provided also. The supper was a. special feature and music was provided by Messrs E. Baines and L. Housiaux. Mr. J. Trembath carried out the duties of M.C. Mr. H. Waldrom, manager of the Rahui junior team, thanked all who had attended and helped in any way.
