Air Nash left Whenuapai on July 8 to attend the conferenee in London at ■which the Commonwpalth Finance Ministors discussed Britain 's dollar probleras. TTe began his return journev last Monday and travelled across America. He spent only about half an hour at the airport before he took off for Ohakea in a Dakota aircraft piloted bv Fquadron Leader A. TI. Harding D.F.C. The journev from Oliakea to Wellingtong was to be made by car. The 1949 Budget was now well on the way and whether it would be readv to be presented in the House of Representatives on August 18, depended on how far advanced the Treasury was with its part of the work, said Mr NaMi. He had done some work on it while he .was travelling and the Acting-Minister
of Finance. Mr Nordmeyer, had also done some in Wellington. "I have been working on some of the things we will have to do and also on some the things we will have to sav, " said Mr Nash with his customarv pre-Budeet smile. Although Britain was facing serious difficulties she would overcome them, said Mr Nash, -when referring to the Finance Ministers' confe.rence in London. There was no pessimism at the conferenee but a feeliner of optimism Tt, was not undue optimism for it wasrealised that a way had to be found out of the problem.
