WAIROA WINS JUNIOR GAME
The junior game played as a ■Curtain raiser sa,w a remarkably fit and capable side in Wairoa defeat Horowhenua -by three tries and a penalty _ goal to nil. Although up against stiff opposition, which gave a masterly exhibition, Horowhenua were by no means disgraced and made a gallant showing. * Wairoa prove'd superior in most departments and their effective smothering tactics saw Horowhenua with little or no room to move in. The wingers, Whaanga and Pomana, scored tries in the first spell, and Wilson kicked a pena-lly, and Mayo, the five-eighths, scored a try in the second spell. For Wairoa outstanding exhibitions were given by Wilson, at fuT-back, and by Southee, a grand line-out forward, whose side won 45 lineouts to 25. MivF. D. Chainey was the referee.
