Poroutawhao W.I. Holds Birthday Social
To celebrate its sixteenth birthday the Poroutawhao Women's Institute held a social and dance in the district hall. Visitors from sister institutes a*d a large.. representation from Foxton were welcomed by.the president, Mrs. Scott. Much-appreciated items were rendered hy Misses A. Hewitt, B. Young, A. Cameron and Gwen Davidson, Mesdames G. Hesp and W. J. Tait and Mr.- W. J. Tait. A game, "the poisoned stick," created much enjoyment and was won by Miss A. ' Cameroii and Mr. S. Cameron. Following the serving of a dainty home-made supper, congratulations were extended to the institute by Mesdames Chapman (federation representative) , Baker (Koputaroa) Harris (Foxton). The 16 candles on the bcautifully-decor-ated cake were lit by visiting institute members and past presidents of the Poroutawhao institute. Flowers were presented to Mesdames Scott (president) ' and Strode-Penny (secretary) . Mrs. Chapman, as federation representative, extinguished the candles and institute members dispensed pieces of the cake to those present. Dahcing was confcinued .until a late hour under the capable direction of Mr. C. H. Arcus.
