Annual Meeting Of Chalmers Presbyterian Church

The annual meeting of the OtakiRaumati South Presbyterian Home' Mission Station was held in Chalmers Church, Otaki, on Thursday night, Rev. A. Salmond, of st. Andrew's, Levin, presrding,. The report of Session was presented by Mr. F. Thorpe, of Otaki, and Mr. D. Edgar, of Raumati South. Tribute was paid to the work of Rev. W. H. Nicholas. ■ Mr. R. McKeen presented the report of the Board of Managers and Mr. R. Duncan the financial statemenc. The work of Otaki Presbyterian Sunday School was dealt with by Mr. D. Lipscombe. The provision of a Sunday School hall, which the members of the ladies' association were seriously considering, wouid greatly assist the teaching stafi' and would generally assist the life of the congregations, he said. Mrs. R. Duncan presented a most encouraging report from the ladies' association and Mrs. Herbert and? Miss Cromb reporLed for the Otaki' and Paraparaumu branches of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union. Should Be Aided Charge It was resolved that the Otaki Home Mission Station endeavour to become an aided charge of the Presbyterian Church and that the Session be instructed to make all the necessary inquiries into what rise in status wourd be invo^ved. It was resorved that in the meantime existing boundaries and present linkages be maintained. Encouragement was given the ladies' association to - continue planning for the erection o'f a t'uture Sunday School hall. Office-bearers elected for the year were: Messrs F. Thorpe, R. McKeen, A. Lumley, W. H. Townrow, D. Lipscombe, S. Beattie, A. McKenzie and Mrs. R. Jenkins (Otaki area), and Messrs D. Edgar, W. H. Brinsley, W. Cromb, J. H. Treadwell, and Mrs. B. Cook (Southern areal .

Session Report "In presenting the annual report' the Session wishes to place on record its heartfelt sympathy to-! wards two of its members — the minister in his- very recent bereavement, and Mr. Townrow whose wife passe'd away some months ago. "The work oi the parish goes 011 steadiiy wich a marked advance ac the Raumati South and Paraparaumu end, there being 63 communicant members on the southern roll compared with 64 at Chalmers. "Attendances at divine service have been maintained throughout the year, with the exception of the evening service at Chalmers which has been very poor. Services are hel'd at the Sanatorium, Otaki, Waikanae, Paraparaumu Beach, Raumati South, and Chalmers. "Communion services generally were well a.ttended, there being an average of 40 despite the fact that Ihrough death and transfer we have lost no fewer than twelve members throughout the year. Regutar visiting by the minister has been appreciated, and shown good results, though at the latter end of the year, Mr. Nicholas found this part of the work increasingly difficult."
