Denial Of Commitment To Increase Production
HAMILTON," July 29. "As far as the dairy industry is concerned there is no "commitment in our contract with Britain in regard to increased production," stated Mr. R. A. Gandy, a member of the Dairy Products Marketing eommission, when referring at the annual meeting today of ° the Auckland Herd Improvement Association to the statement of Mr. F. P. Walsh that the dairying industry had given an undertaking to increase production by 25 per cent. Members of the Commission, said Mr. Candy, had told the British authorities that if things were to continue favourably there might be an increase of 20 per cent. in production "within tlie seven-year period of the contract. However, the Commission had deflnitely not committed any production increase, and for anyone to say that it was reasonable to expect a 25 per cent. increase on the 1948-49 season 's output, which itself represented an increase of 10 per cent. on the previous season 's output, was to. show a lamentable ignorance of the true position, while on top of this to say that the industry had an obligation in the matter was ridiculous.
