Levin R.S.A. To Hold Ball Again This Year
A decision to hold a ball this year instead of a caibaret, as in the past, was decided at the quarterly general meeting of the Levin R.S.A. last night and that booking at £1 ls double be open to R.S.A. members for three days. It was a.so decrded t"b recommend to the ball committee that the numbers be restricied to ensure that there was seating for all. During the meeting the president, Mr. N. M. Thomson, detailed the scheme whereby local organisations had arranged for a house-to-house visit in regard to the forthcoming referendum and the personal distribution of pamphlets issued by the R.S.A. 's joint action committee presenting the case for compulsory military training. • The president then asked for volunteers from the meeting to cover the R.S.A.'s section of the borough, and the names of all those .willing to assist were taken. An interesting ad'dress was then given on the proceedings of the recent N.Z.R.S.A. Dominion conference by the two local delegates, Messrs J. Corbishley and S. Atkins. A number &f questions were put to the speakers, who were then given a vote of thanks from the meeting. It was resolved that the rehabilitation and welfare committees be asked to supply the executive with quarterly statistical statements summarising the number of houses and loans made available, and that more publicity be given the fact that returned men from World War II who find themSelves in flnancial need "should not hcsitate in applying to the welfare committee for a grant in reasonable cases, irrespective of whether such need arose from war injuries or not.
