WELLINGTON, July 29., Having recovdred from dhehard'- knocks th.at the three days' meeting at Trentham Kact is,su'e;& put to the majority of punte^s, turf fojllowers should find a little their way this weekend when/the Christchurch * '--Hunt at Riccarton and the Rahgitikei /Hpnt at Marton/ will be the only two meetings staged. -■ ■■ *■ ;■ ' . ■„
Winter f orm should _ - work o,Ut fairly successfully, particularly So at Riccarton where' the winners Of he Homeby Steepiechase, t'he Longbeach Hurdies and the Bra-^ oazon Handicap will not incur rehandicaps for the Grand National Steep.echase and Hurdies and Winter Cup the following week. Tne Riccarton course is reported Lo be in sxcellent order for tomor:ow's hunt meeting. Uniike Trentham this course drains fairly quiek:y. The ruling favourites for the three main events are Prize Ring in the Homeby Steepiechase, Detain in the Longbeach Hurdies and Da Yinci in the Brabazon Handicap.
The dis.ance of the Homeby Steepiechase and the better going than was the case at Trent'hatn will greatly enhance Prize Ring's pfcspects. I-Ie showed at Trentham thait he is at the peak of has juniping career. Through his success at Trentham there will >|>e strong forowing for veteran Pagje's Raid. , Although not gifted t with s.amlna Coione Smart is q. dashihg and sptmacu.ar fencer'and the distance tomorrow- will suit hijn. Of the others BedGlare wpuld only need to strike his t'rue forfn to dis'pute the issue as 'he •is ' a proved ^pecLacular jumper. The distance wiil be in his favour. Eleanor- S.ar and Lisiicen are two southerners not wiihout reasonable prospects. Trentham form points to Detain being hard to beat in the Longbeach Hurdes, oJier prospects being Minlon, Aristea, Royal Moutoa rnd Re.ampago. The last named is due to score again shortly.
The majority engaged in the - Braoazon Handicap are weighted • for the Winter Cup the following week. Da Vinci, who ran. second iast' year, . has top/bTreitham fonn to ree.oinmen3,j.
