The flnancial position was considered to "be satisfactory a't the moment, but it was agreed that a discussion on ways and means of raising money would be on the agenda for the next meeting, as the local sub-centre had not made any appeal for financial assistance sinee April, 1948. A donation of 10s was received with gratitude.
It was decided to make a special appeal for good used footwear for the children of the new settlers from overseas, a't present at Pahiatua, and, by permission of the authorities, the .Council Cha.mbers were sele'cted as the most suitablev collecting depot. It was agreed to distribute suitable comforts to some cases of' sick people in the district. A good collection of warm clothing for sehding -overseas was brought by members and dfspatched to the -Palmerston .North centre.Best wishes for an interesting conference were extended to Mrs. J. D. Campbell,- who is to attend the Red Cross * cdnference at New Plymouth. ' ' - . The next meeting will be held early in October, when it is proposed to invite members of a sister organisation to b.e present for a social discussion and exchange of views.
