France Has Her Fears As Well As Hopes
♦ Received Friday 8-50 p.m,. LONDON, July 22. The Times' Paris correspondent says 1;fie French National Assembly to-day begins a two-day debate on the ratifi:ation of the Atlantic Pact. Its outcome is beyond douht, for only the Commun'sts and their fellow travellqrs ■will /ote against it. The debate will, however, reveal lorne of the French fears and expeetafions ahout tfie prospects for peaqe and var in Western Europe. One point of •eal anxiety in the French attitude is he question of military aid— its quanity and its timing. "Before pr after inrasion?" Is the understandahly cynical iuestion on many French lips. ! The Foreign Minister (Mr Robert lchuman) evidently had this in min^ /esterday when he declared that for rance the promjse of military aid was he logical outcome of the ratification >f the Pact.
