Hodge, of Tauranga, who have beep paying a brief • holiday visit to Levin, were renewing acquaintances in Otaki! on Wednesday. Mr. T. Winiata, Levin, has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of his brother, Mr. N. Winiata, as secretary of the Otaki Maori Racing Club. The death occurred on Wednesday at the Palmerston North Hospital of Mr. Leonard -Francis (Pat) Cootes, of Rangiuru". He had been in faiiing' health for some time. He l'eaves a wife and young family to mourn their loss.

The infant daught.er of Mr. and Mrs. Heta Gilbert, Mill Road, who has been in an iron lung for severai days past, died on Wednesday. This bereavemefit is the third in the family in as many weeks, a cousin and an aunt of the girl having die'd recently. Card Evening Results.
