More About Levin Hotel
"WAS HERE."
(To the Editor)" Sir, — I have read with interest the" correspondence' in your newspaper regarding the building of the first hotel in Levin. Your last correspondent is right. The Roe BroS. built the Levin Hotel in 1891 and Mr," C. Roe was the first licensse, then Messrs. Beveridge, Sydey and Gar'and, who held it until 1898 or 1899. . r • • . ' It is most likely 'that the hotel was built by Williamson Bros., as they were the chief builders of that day. They built the f first school robm; ': which :ty^s sitqated "i-n, Queen Strget, ,afid also the s.dhd6jpiaster!s residenc&V which ' opened lhito' Bath "Street. Bartho^mew's mill was not ;in the so-called avenue; it was on the east side of the railway line, on •Roslyn Road, aird as you walked aicross 'the lifie you enl'ered the milf-yard. The railway siding was on the' west side of the railway. — Yours, -etc.,
Levin, Jffiy 19. With the publicatio'n of the above letter, correspondence on this subject is now closed. — Editor.
